 When wanting to start a blog from the beginning, you'll always ask "Which is the best blogging platform". If you want to start out, it is most reliable to start on a solid foundation.

In this post, I'm going to show you the 4 most popular and highest blogging platforms, their pros and cons, and then decide which is best suitable for you. Before starting, you may want to pin down what your blog is going to be all about. If you're an amateur or a beginner, it is advisable to choose the one that doesn't use codes and is easy to use. You may want to start with a fun blog that could grow into something more later.

There are alot to consider when starting your own blog which is why I said earlier, your foundation  is your blogging platform. It'll be challenging migrating hosts when you're booming if your blog wasn't strong enough to support the building you were creating.

Let's start with the list of blogging platforms.
1) WORDPRESS- This is the world's most popular blogging platform. It requires you setting up the host yourself. Lol, you must be wondering how you'd do that but don't worry, I'm here to guide you. Setting up the hosting is not as complicated as you think. You just need to decide on a blog name and if it is available (blog name), then you purchase it along with the hosting so that when someone wants to visit your blog, they can just type it in the browser. 
Doing this will require another site called BLUEHOST. This makes it super fast and very easy. Using this. You can set up your blog in less than 30minutes. 
WordPress is open-sourced and it allows you to build your website exactly how you want it. You can change the theme, install useful plugins. 


PROS: 

*Mobile responsive(depending on the theme used)

*Compete SEO with the use of plugins
*Website can grow with you. You can as well add an online store or forum etc. 

CONS:

*No free tier and you need to set up your own hosting 
*You have to manage your own back up and security
*Steep learning curve at the beginning 

PRICING:

This is free but you'll need to pay for hosting and domain name with the use bluehost. This costs $7.99 per month

NOTE: WordPress.org is not to be confused with WordPress.com. WordPress is an open-source software used to build websites and can be found at WordPress.org while WordPress.com is a blog hosting service that is very limited when compared to WordPress.Org.

2) WIX- This is an all-in-one solution giving the easy to use drag and drop site builder and built in hosting. Wix is free but need to pay a charge monthly to connect your domain. 


PROS:

*No coding skills required.
*Easy to use drag and drop
*Very customizable design with 500 templates
*Good built in SEO tools

CONS:

*Templates cannot be changed once settled on
*Free apps are limited. 
*Free account shows wix branding and you can't link your domain name. 
*Store setup is limited and requires one of the more expensive paid plans. 

PRICING:

Wix is a free platform but you need to pay to link your domain. Paid plan starts at $4.50 per month, although ads are more visible on tier and sum up to $24.50 per month

3)SQUARESPACE-
Just like wix, this has its own easy to use drag and drop site builder. This provides more templates that are well designed by professionals and allow businesses or individuals easy way of creating their own presence. 


PROS: 

*40+ beautifully designed templates 
*Mobile responsive.
*Good built in SEO. 
*Easy to migrate to WordPress.com

CONS:

*No mobile editor dedicated.
*Plugins are limited
*No free tier.

PRICING:

This consists of two plans. Personal and Business plans. Personal plan starts at $16 per month while Business plan starts at $26 per month.

4)WEEBLY-
This offers an all in one site builder including hosting. 



PROS:

*Mobile responsive. 
*Good built in SEO.
*Great support staff.

CONS:

*3rd party apps are limited.
*Exportation to another site is difficult
*Expensive to get access all the features

PRICING:

Weebly's paid plan starts at $8 per month and can increase up to $46 per month.

FINAL SUGGESTIONS:
Squarespace, Wix and Weebly can seem like a good option when starting, with all the drag and drop site builders but I would really recommend WordPress because it is more powerful. Once you have gotten a hand of WordPress, it becomes so so easy to use. The steep learning curve is worth handling if you want to start a very successful blog. It is not too late to start your own blog
